The ultimate goal of the recruitment is to gather as many suitable candidates for a particular role as possible. Depending on the size of an organization, recruitment is the responsibility of a range of workers. (Smart Recruiters, n.d.)

Types of recruitment

Internal recruitment – looking for a candidate who already works for the organization in a different role. Companies try to find the right candidate within the organization before searching external candidate. This method can be considered as a cost effective since it costs less to promote someone than hitting a new candidate.

Contingency recruitment – This is somewhat similar to retained recruitment. However, unlike retained recruiting, contingency recruiting does not involve any upfront fee. Recruitment company receive payment only when the clients they represent are hired by an organization.

Staffing recruitment – Staffing recruiters work for staffing agencies. Staffing recruitment matching qualified applicants with qualified job openings. Moreover, staffing agencies typically focus on short-term or temporary employment positions.

Outplacement recruitment – Outplacement is a service that assist terminated employees with the transition to a new job, which can include resume writing, job search & job coaching. These services designed to give a former employee the best opportunity for finding another job as soon as possible (THE INVESTOPEDIA TEAM, 2021).

Reverse recruitment – Reverse recruitment is where an individual speculatively introduces themselves directly or through a third party, to a new organization at a point in time when the organization many not even have the suitable vacancy (Bronserud, n.d.).

The process of identifying and choosing the best person out of a number of prospective candidates for a job is known as selection. It is a process of matching the qualifications of candidates with the requirements of jobs to be filled.  Various steps need to be completed in the selection process to eliminate the unfitting candidates and to select the most suitable candidate from the pool created by the recruitment process (Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University, n.d.). 1. Yes Amesha. I totally agree with your point. Hiring great people is one of the most important and most challenging things we do in our professional lives. The hardest part is often just knowing what to ask applicants to make sure we're getting the right person for the job. We know there are certain attributes the ideal employee will have, but what exactly are they and how do we test for those traits in applicants? And do it in the limited time you have? This pressure often leaves one feeling overwhelmed and even a little frustrated.

    1. Thanks Wasula for sharing more information on the this topic. Personality job fit theory is a theory that revolves around the fact that every employee and organization each have specific behavioral traits. The degree of congruence between an employee’s trait or character and the organization’s culture has a direct impact on employee satisfaction and company productivity.
The higher the congruence, the higher the satisfaction and productivity between an employee and an organization while the lower the congruence lead to less productivity and dissatisfaction. We can describe it as matching employee’s traits, values, needs, and abilities to the organizational values, demands, and rewards. (Duncan,2021)

  13. This is a clear and concise explanation of the differences between recruitment and selection! I particularly like the table that summarizes the key points.

    Here are some additional thoughts:

Collaboration: While recruitment and selection are distinct stages, they can benefit from collaboration. Information gathered during recruitment (e.g., from job descriptions) can inform the selection process (e.g., interview questions).

Candidate Experience: Both recruitment and selection should prioritize a positive candidate experience. Clear communication and timely updates throughout the process are essential.
